Toyota Sketches Out 2013 Avalon [New York Auto Show]

Just in time for dinner in Boca Raton, Toyota has released a sketch of the next-gen Avalon. The cushy sedan will debut next week at the New York auto show.

Just as we saw in recent photos of a prototype 2013 Avalon undergoing testing, the Avalon in the sketch has a generously sloped rear roofline and a short rear deck. The Camry will once again supply the Avalon with a platform, just as Hyundai's Sonata supports the Azera, the Avalon's closest competitor. Despite the dowdy image of any mainstream, full-size sedan—Dodge Charger excluded—the segment still racks up considerable sales: The outgoing and crusty Avalon pushed an impressive 29,000 units through the door last year.

Check back here for full coverage of the Avalon—and even some exciting cars—from New York.
