Sometimes when you take an ungainly car and cover it with tons of crap it can come out kind of nifty-looking. If that weren't possible, SEMA wouldn't be a thing.
At the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing last weekend in Huntington Beach, California, Fiat debuted a high-riding, surfer-inspired concept version of its none-too-fetching 500L dubbed, not coincidentally, the 500L–Vans. Turns out, when festooned with a two-tone paint job, 18-inch matte-black wheels, smoked lamp surrounds, and a roof wearing the Vans checkerboard pattern beneath a roof-mounted surfboard carrier, the 500L doesn't look all that bad. Vans's trademark waffle-sole pattern appears on the step pads, cladding, grille inserts, and pedals (appropriately enough), as well as in the storage bins. The seats are upholstered in blue-and-white canvas with a vintage palm-tree pattern, while the instrument panel is covered in Vans logo stickers.

Fiat didn't say whether it plans to produce more of these as a special-edition version of the 500L, but stranger things have happened. And there's no word on what Fiat may have in mind for its next 500L-based concept, but we hope it involves a lot of accessories.
