In its announcement for the 2015 CTS-V coupe special edition, Cadillac let slip a confirmation of what we've known for some time: New high-performance V-series cars are coming, and they're coming soon. As Cadillac itself puts it: "the next-generation V-Series models are in development and will premiere next year." Note the plural "models," and the lack of specificity to the CTS nameplate.
Spy photos of muscled-up CTS-V and ATS-V sedans, as well as a peek at a tuned ATS-V coupe, have stoked our excitement for Cadillac's next-generation V models, but this marks Cadillac's first official acknowledgement of the cars' existence. Although Cadillac doesn't outright name the CTS-V and ATS-V in the announcement, there's little chance the company isn't talking about those cars, since the new CTS lineup won't include a coupe or a wagon.

Today, the V lineup consists of the last-gen CTS-V sedan, wagon (!), and coupe, which are being sold alongside the all-new-for-2014 workaday CTS sedan. Those non-sedan models—and their non-V counterparts—probably will soon die. Given how nicely the CTS and ATS drive in standard form, we're more than a little eager to try out the steroidal V-series models. To borrow a phrase from NFLer Bart Scott: CAN'T WAIT.
