Google Glass. Nothing makes you look more idiotic than wearing the balky face device, and we're solidly against people wearing Glass while driving and being distracted—like this lady. But what if you were to use Glass only to film your behind-the-wheel exploits, like Rahal-Letterman Lanigan racing did? Then the result might just be . . . cool? Team RLL rigged up its pit crew and driver with Glass units and filmed portions of a lap and a full pit stop at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the result is very, very cool indeed.
Okay, so these guys still look über lame wearing their Glasses (sorry, Bobby), especially stuffed into their helmets, but the video is impressive. The first-person view from the race car is insane, and gives a closer-to-reality look at the task of driving an open-wheel racer than even a head-mounted GoPro, which produces a point-of-view perspective known only by super tall people. The pit crew's view is just as sweet, because it shows how fast those guys need to move while changing tires and refueling. Check it out:
