Vehicles Affected: About 56,214 model-year 2007-2008 Saturn Aura sedans manufactured between April 24, 2006, and Oct. 31, 2007, and equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission
The Problem: The transmission shift cable may fracture while the vehicle is being driven, and upon attempting to stop and park the vehicle, the driver will not be able to shift the lever to the Park position or remove the ignition key. If the vehicle is not in Park, it could roll away, increasing the risk of injury.
The Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket for free. The automaker has not provided an owner notification schedule.
What Owners Should Do: Owners can call GM at 800-553-6000, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov for more info.
