Maserati’s Product Trident to Become a Hexdent by 2018, Including Gorgeous Alfieri Coupe and Cabrio!

Maserati Alfieri Concept

Remember the Maserati Alfieri concept that stole the show at March's Geneva show? Although Maser wouldn't confirm production of the sexy 2+2 at the time, it was clear from the huge puddle of drool around the thing that it would be crazy to leave it in the design studio. We're happy to report that Maserati's apparently still sane, as it confirmed that the Alfieri is scheduled to arrive in 2015 and be followed up a year later by a droptop variant.

Although the powertrains to be offered at introduction were not specified, Maserati's four-year projection documents indicate the Alfieri coupe and cabrio will be running V-6 engines producing 410 horsepower (likely identical to or a close variant of the twin-turbo V-6 engine currently in the Ghibli and Quattroporte) in two-wheel drive versions, and 450- and 520-hp units in all-wheel-drive models.  Those are some pretty strong numbers for a V-6, and to keep the natural order of things undisturbed Maserati projects that by that time the V-8 in the Ghibli, Quattroporte, Levante, and GranTurismo will be producing 560 or more horsepower.

FCA investor day

Also buried in the report is a reference to the GranTurismo replacement, which is slated to arrive for the 2018 model year. With that car and the Levante SUV in the lineup, Maserati will have a stable of six vehicles in 2018. Not too shabby for a maker that was on the ropes just a few years ago.
