Volkswagen today announced pricing for the redesigned-for-2015 Golf. The seventh-generation of the hatchback will start at $18,815, including an $820 destination charge — $2,000 less than the 2014 version. The 2015 model's starting price is for the limited-availability two-door Golf Launch Edition with a five-speed manual transmission. Volkswagen says all of the eight available trim levels offer more standard equipment and better interior space than outgoing models. The longer, wider, lower and lighter 2015 Golf is expected to arrive at dealerships in August.

Two new powertrains will be available; both use turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder engines — one gas and one diesel. Golf versions with the 1.8-liter gas engine are mated to either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, and will be available in five trim levels. The 2.0-liter TDI version pairs with either a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic transmission, and will be offered in three trims. Volkswagen says interior space in the new model is up slightly, and the automaker claims the Golf now offers more trunk space than any midsize sedan in the U.S. Newly available safety equipment includes forward collision warning and VW's Automatic Post-Collision Braking System.
Gas-version trims include the Launch Edition, S, S with Sunroof, SE and top-of-the-line SEL. The two-door-only Launch Edition starts at $18,815 and comes standard with Bluetooth connectivity, a touch-screen multimedia system with iPod integration, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, cloth seats with manual lumbar adjustment, and power windows and door locks. The S starts at $19,815 for the two-door manual version. The S with Sunroof starts at $21,815 and is available only as a four-door. The SE starts at $25,315 and is available only with four doors and an automatic transmission. The SEL starts at $27,815, is available only as a four-door automatic and includes 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, navigation, automatic air conditioning, keyless entry with push-button start and a 12-way power driver's seat, V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces, a leather-wrapped handbrake, shifter knob and steering wheel, and ambient lighting with LED interior reading lights.
Diesel versions include the Golf TDI S, SE and SEL; they start at $22,815, $26,315 and $28,815, respectively. The diesel models' standard equipment and options mirror their gas counterparts. Volkswagen says the new diesel models are about $3,000 cheaper than the outgoing TDIs.
