Saab, GM Set New Agreement on Warranties

Brave souls who purchased a Saab over the last few years as General Motors wound down the brand and eventually sold it off will be pleased to hear that their cars' warranties will be serviced through a new agreement between the two companies. GM and Saab Automobile Parts North America have announced a new cooperative arrangement which will see Saab owners' warranties honored at 179 registered Warranty Service Providers throughout the U.S. and Canada. The agreement initially covers vehicles from 2009 and earlier, which were covered under a GM warranty. Eventually, another program called Saab Secure will be launched, providing limited service for model-year 2010 and 2011 owners. The benefit to Saab owners: Cars will be serviced by Saab factory-trained technicians, using genuine Saab parts. A new North America Customer Assistance Center will also be set up to help answer questions. Saab Automobile Parts is a fully funded and independent company owned primarily by the Swedish government, formed after GM wound the brand down in 2009 and the independent Saab declared bankruptcy in 2011. After that bankruptcy, buyers took a big chance in purchasing a new Saab — despite the fantastic deals offered — and this establishment of warranty programs should help owners breathe a bit easier.
