Japanese Delivery Delays for Subaru BRZ Shouldn’t Affect U.S. Availability

High demand has pushed back Japanese delivery dates for Subaru's BRZ into early 2013. Production in Japan has been unable to keep up with demand, said to be four times higher than Subaru initially predicted.

Regardless of demand levels for the car in the U.S., we are scheduled to receive just 6000 BRZs for the 2013 model year. Subaru, for its part, says that the Japanese delays likely won't have any effect on our allotment, the first units of which are in transit and should hit showroom floors/the driveways of depositors early next month.

Subaru also says that it is aware that some dealers are said to be offering the car for more than its $26,265 starting price (more pricing details here), and that it held internal meetings on the topic this week. We assume the company will then give its dealers a stern talking-to. We've contacted Scion for comment regarding what the Japanese-market delays might mean for the BRZ's FR-S twin, and are awaiting a response.
