2013 Chevrolet Malibu Turbo Will Produce 259 Horsepower

Like other recent introductions to the midsize sedan category, such as the 2012 Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima and the upcoming 2013 Ford Fusion, the next-generation 2013 Chevrolet Malibu forgoes a V-6 option. We learned today that the Malibu's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder will produce 259 horsepower and 260 pounds-feet of torque. That's more power than the current 3.6-liter V-6 on the 2012 Malibu, which produces 252 hp. The turbo four, which replaces the V-6 in the 2012 Malibu, can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 6.3 seconds, which is the same as the V-6 Malibu. Already on sale as the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco with a single-mode hybrid powertrain, the Malibu also will be available with a standard 197-hp 2.5-liter engine.
