Autoblog reports General Motors has issued four new recalls affecting a total of 2.42 million vehicles. As of this writing, a total of 15 million units have been recalled by GM since February, a number Jalopnik says exceeds the total number of vehicles sold by the automaker in the past five years.
The affected models are:
- 1,339,355 2009 – 2014 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and 2009 – 2010 Saturn Outlook: front safety lap belt cable fatigue
- 1,075,102 2004 – 2008 Chevrolet Malibu and 2005 – 2008 Pontiac G6: transmission shift cable fracturing
- 1,402 2015 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV: insufficient plastic welding leading to partial deployment of front passenger air bag in event of crash; stop-sale, safety notice issued
- 58 2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD: retention clips holding 220-amp generator could become loose, moving generator out of place with potential for fire
The latest round contributes to the total of approximately 15 million vehicles recalled globally, which is more than the 12.18 million vehicles sold from 2009 through 2013, though there is overlap in some of the vehicles as a result of more than one recall affected them.
Financially, GM will be taking a $400 million charge for the recalls in Q2 2014, which includes the previously announced $200 million for the same quarter.
