-Ford is only planning on building 500 examples of its $450,000 GT supercar, but 6506 people applied for the chance to buy one. That means Ford is going to have to send out a lot of rejection letters and now, via Jalopnik, we know what that rejection letter looks like. It's quite sad.
At least Ford is letting down rejected applicants easy, and thanking them profusely for their interest in buying a GT. Like a college putting a prospective student on a waitlist, Ford leaves open the possibility that more GT's could be produced after the initial 500, though we wouldn't bank on it. The full text, as sent to Jalopnik:

-We are thrilled that you share our passion for performance and the all-new Ford GT.
The demand for Ford GT from enthusiasts like you has surpassed our very limited production.
-Unfortunately, we do not have enough Ford GTs to fulfill your request at this time.
-We have confirmed our Ford GT production plans for only two years. However, if additional production is confirmed, your application information will remain in your profile for easy updating.
-Meanwhile, we encourage you to stay connected to the latest announcements, news and information through our website: www.fordgt.com.
-Thank you, again, for your passion for our all-new supercar.

Of course, Ford also has already contacted the very fortunate 500 who'll get to purchase a GT. So, prospective GT customers either are having a great day or a terrible one.
