After skipping the past two model years, the factory Baja blaster known as the Ford Raptor returns for 2017—and the price has gone up commensurately with the truck's insanity.
-The 2017 Raptor in extended SuperCab trim starts at $49,520, or $430 more than what Ford charged in 2014 for the four-door SuperCrew (and $3330 more than the 2014 SuperCab). Consequently, the 2017 Raptor SuperCrew comes in at $52,505 ($3415 more than 2014). Remember, this Raptor is based on the aluminum-bodied F-150 and includes the light-duty truck market's first 10-speed automatic, plus a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 that'll top the old 6.2-liter V-8's 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque.
--While a list of standard equipment isn't available, we do know about the Raptor's two major option packages. The mid-level package (formerly known as 801A; it'll receive an official code in due time) costs $3158 and includes 10-way power heated leather seats, power adjustable pedals, and the Sync 3 infotainment system. The luxury package ($9345) includes the mid-level package plus cooled seats with memory, 360-degree cameras, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, remote start, five years of Sync Connect telematics, an automatic reverse steering system for trailers, and most important, a 4.10:1 Torsen front limited-slip differential. Other features are also included in the luxury package, but Ford hasn't told us exactly what. As before, a loaded Raptor is a $60,000 truck.

Dealers are taking orders now for fall delivery. We're raising our hands to conduct an instrumented test posthaste, given that it's been more than three years since we've strapped equipment to a Ford mega-truck. Something tells us the wait will be worth it.
