Buckle Down: 2016 Ford Mustang Recalled for Seat Belts, 2009–10 Ford Edge for Fuel Leaks

Our first suspicion was a tank of 87 octane. At least, we think that's why the Mustang EcoBoost refused to make any boost. High ambient temps probably didn't help, either. So we burned off the first tank of fuel and started over with a tank of 93 octane.

Ford is recalling 112,601 cars in three separate U.S. actions this week, among them the 2016 Ford Mustang for seat belts that might have been damaged during shipping, the company said.

Certain 2016 Mustangs have seat belts and child-seat anchors that may have been damaged in transit prior to final assembly at Flat Rock, which means they might not perform up to snuff when they're really needed. Dealers will replace all the belts, assemblies, rear buckles, and rear anchors on 1900 cars, the majority of which are sitting on dealer lots, as they were built less than a month ago.

The vast majority of vehicles in these recalls are accounted for by 110,636 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers from 2009–2010 that have fuel tanks that can leak. Reinforcement brackets that mount the fuel tank to the chassis may rust, which can possibly cause a leak or a check-engine light to illuminate. Since this is a corrosion-related recall, Ford is allowed to limit repairs to vehicles that were ever registered in 21 "salt belt" states and the District of Columbia (Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin). Dealers will make repairs or replace the entire tank.

Finally, there are 65 E-series cutaway and chassis cabs from model year 2016 with faulty trailer brake controllers that won't apply the trailer brakes. Dealers will update the software.
