Finally, after 7,000 miles, a staffer took the 2013 Honda Civic long-term tester on an extended highway drive and proved, yes, we can hit its 39 mpg highway rating. A calculated fill-up average of 42.2 mpg on a tank crushed the previous 35.94 mpg; the record fill-up's trip computer mileage read 41.1 mpg.

Follow Our Long-Term Fleet

The highest average tank was backed up by a 39.01 mpg tank. Our 2013 Civic's primarily urban and suburban driving has kept the compact sedan from showcasing what type of fuel economy it can return on the highway — until now.

Meanwhile, our 2013 Subaru BRZ logged 2,600 miles this month and sees no change in maximum and minimum averages since our previous update.
