2014 Corvette Stingray Rated at 455 Horsepower

Those counting the days until the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray hits dealerships this fall now have 455 reasons to get excited. The base 2014 Corvette's 6.2-liter V-8 is officially rated at 455 horsepower and 460 pounds-feet of torque. That's up from the 2013's 430 hp and 424 pounds-feet of torque.

Chevrolet says the new LT1 engine in the coupe and convertible is the most powerful base engine stuffed between the fenders of a Corvette and, like the previous generation, has an available performance exhaust that bumps power. In the 2014, the optional exhaust bumps output a tad more to 460 hp and 465 pounds-feet of torque. Zero-to-60 mph times are expected to dip under the four-second mark.

Corvette's official horsepower rating comes months after the 2014 Corvette debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit with estimates of 450 hp. Both pricing ($51,995, including destination) and horsepower have been announced, leaving few remaining numbers left to reveal. One of those is gas mileage, which GM expects to exceed 26 mpg on the highway.
