Mazda Racing: Rotary Out, Diesels In

With Mazda no longer supporting the RX-8 in sports-car racing, the brand's rotary racing-heritage was left very much in doubt. Those doubts manifested when Mazda announced at the New York auto show that it intended to race with the Skyactiv-D clean-diesel engine. At the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans, Mazda revealed the racing version of the new clean-diesel engine it plans to sell to teams competing in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and, of course, in the American Le Mans Series.
