  • Competes with: Acura ILX, Volvo S40
  • Looks like: A Verano with a "T" badge for turbo
  • Drivetrain: 250-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder
  • Hits dealerships: Late 2012

Today, Buick revealed the details of its Verano Turbo model, which will follow in its sibling Regal's footsteps by using a version of its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. It makes 250 horsepower in this application, up from the Regal's 220-hp rating.

The 2013 Verano Turbo joins a 180-hp four-cylinder engine. Six-speed manual and automatic transmissions are available. According to Buick, the Verano Turbo will do zero to 60 mph in an estimated 6.2 seconds. Distinguishing it from the regular model is a turbo badge in back, a rear deck lid spoiler and dual exhaust ports. Inside, there's aluminum sport pedals.

Fuel-economy numbers aren't final, but Buick expects the Verano Turbo's EPA figures to be in line with the brand's other turbocharged models. The Regal turbo is EPA rated at 18/29 mpg city/highway. Non-turbocharged Veranos get 21/32 mpg.

Buick says pricing will be announced closer to the start of production in late 2012.
