Toyota: 19 New Models in 2012

Toyota had a rough year in 2011. Safety investigations and natural disasters presented challenge after challenge and wounded the company's supply chain, sales figures and brand image. It's a new year, and it sounds like Toyota plans to stay busy. The automaker is planning to launch 19 new vehicles in 2012 across its Toyota, Lexus and Scion brands, according to the Detroit Free Press. Executives detailed the plans to dealers last weekend at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in Las Vegas. Dealers were also treated to a sneak peek of the next Avalon. Toyota's largest sedan was redesigned for 2011. The Free Press reports that an updated Avalon with improved fuel economy will appear at the New York International Auto Show in April. Dealers were told that the new version should see combined mpg in the low 30s. A fuel-cell concept was also teased. So far, the subcompact Prius c joined the lineup for 2012, and we expect a plug-in version of the regular Prius to follow this year. We saw the new Scion FR-S and updated Lexus LX 570 at the Detroit auto show, and we will see the revised-for-2013 Toyota Land Cruiser at the Chicago Auto Show. We also expect an electric version of the Toyota RAV4 compact SUV and, following Camry's redesign for 2012, a new Lexus ES 350 this year.
