Nissan Planning Crowd-Sourced 370Z Project Car via Facebook [Chicago Auto Show]

Nissan Project 370Z

To help kick off the launch of its ever-so-lightly refreshed 370Z sports car, Nissan is launching a social-media campaign by which the public can help design a tricked-out Z. The automaker is imaginatively calling the crowd-sourced Z "Project 370Z," and will show the final product at this year's annual ZDayZ gathering.

Project 370Z will be built in several stages between now and when it debuts. Nissan will let its Facebook fans vote on different upgrades—with the categories including power, handling and brakes, and interior/exterior styling—and the winning parts will be installed on the car. Of course, Nissan will guide the process to some degree; those of you who were hoping Project 370Z might turn out as a Nissan-badged Local Motors Rally Fighter or a 370ZCamino are out of luck. The ultimate goal is a 370Z with a résumé that balances track-day abilities with street manners. To participate, you'll first have to like Nissan Performance's Facebook page. The completed Project 370Z will bow this May; the non-crowd-sourced 2013 370Z goes on sale in June.
