Europe Gets a Taste of America with Fiat 500 Special Edition

The Fiat 500 got off to a weak start when it was launched in the U.S. last year, but it's a success overseas. The Italian automaker may be seeing red in terms of U.S. sales, but things will start to look a bit more colorful in Europe when a red, white and blue 500 hits the streets.  Oddly though, the "America" version of Fiat's compact car won't be sold in the U.S.  Set to debut next month at the Geneva International Motor Show, the limited-edition 500 America borrows design cues from the American flag. Coupe versions sport a metallic blue exterior; side mirrors detailed with stars-and-stripes graphics; a red, white and blue belt line sticker; and 16-inch alloy wheels with red caps. Convertibles are white with a red top and sport the same wheels but with blue caps and similar belt line and mirror graphics. The theme continues inside with red and white seats and a white dash.  Only 500 units of each body style will be made and sold only in Europe. Each will wear a badge depicting its serial number.
