2012 Infiniti G25 and G37 Sedan: Car Seat Check

Parents looking to add some excitement to their lives might consider the Infiniti G sedans. The G25 has a 218-horsepower, 2.5-liter V-6, and the G37 has a larger 3.7-liter V-6 that makes 328 hp. The G37 also comes as a coupe and convertible. While Infiniti says the G seats five, the backseat's middle position is uncomfortable because the outboard seats' bolsters keep the passenger from resting on the seatback. We tested the G25 sedan for the Car Seat Check, but the results also apply to the G37. For the Car Seat Check, we use a Graco SnugRide 30 rear-facing infant-safety seat, a Britax Roundabout convertible child-safety seat and a Graco high-back TurboBooster seat. The front seats are adjusted to a comfortable position for a 6-foot driver and a 5-foot-8 passenger. The three child seats are installed in the second row. The booster seat sits behind the driver's seat, and the infant seat and convertible seats are installed behind the passenger seat. We also install the infant seat in the second row's middle seat with the booster and convertible in the outboard seats to see if three car seats will fit. If there's a third row, we install the booster seat and a forward-facing convertible. Here's how the 2012 G25 and G37 did in Cars.com's Car Seat Check: Latch system: The sedan's two sets of lower Latch anchors are buried in the outboard seats' stiff cushions, making the anchors difficult to find and use. On the passenger side, the inner Latch anchor sits behind a seat belt. To access it, you have to push the middle seat's belt off to the side. It's not a deal-breaker, but it is annoying. Thankfully, the three tether anchors, which are on the rear shelf behind the head restraints, are easy to use. Booster seat: Our high-back booster seat fit well in the sedan even though we had to contend with the fixed head restraints that pushed the booster's back forward slightly. The outboard seats have buckles that are on stable bases and are easy for kids to use on their own. However, the middle seat's buckle sits just inside the rear passenger seat behind the driver. When in place, the booster seat covers it up, which could be a problem for the unlucky person sitting in the middle seat. Convertible seat: The fixed head restraint also pushed our forward-facing convertible forward, but it still sat fully on the bottom cushion. The rear-facing convertible fits in the backseat without having to move the front passenger seat forward. Infant-safety seat: This rear-facing seat also fit well in the sedan's backseat.
