Acura Cuts Another Slice for its TL Sedan, Adding Front-Drive Special Edition Model for 2013

2013 Acura TL Special Edition

Even though the future of Acura's mid-size TL sedan is still in limbo—the automaker is deciding whether to axe it or the slightly smaller TSX sedan—the car is sticking around for now. As such, Acura still needs to move TLs, so to help grease those sales wheels, the company is introducing a new TL Special Edition trim level for 2013 that offers several features limited to higher-spec models.

2013 Acura TL Special Edition

Acura's TL lineup consists of two models, the front-drive TL and the all-wheel-drive TL SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive). Each model is available with Technology and Advanced option packages. There also exists the TL enthusiast special, otherwise known as the TL SH-AWD with the six-speed manual, which is essentially an all-wheel-drive, stick-shift TL with the Technology gear. The TL Special Edition slots between the front-drive TL and the TL with Technology package; it offers a rear spoiler and keyless entry with push-button starting, two items normally reserved for the $40,530 Tech package–equipped TL. A set of handsome 18-inch wheels also are included, saving vain buyers the cost of stepping up to the $42,730 TL Advanced. The Special Edition's extra goodies add $1500 to the base TL's $36,800 bottom line, which we think is a bit much for just a set of bigger wheels and push-button starting capability.

Regardless, even the base TL comes nicely equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-way power driver's seat and 8-way power passenger chair, sunroof, 276-watt audio system, and a 280-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic. So if you're in the market for a TL, want a little more curbside razzmatazz but don't want to cough up the dough for the Technology or Advanced packages, the 2013 Special Edition is worth checking out.
