At the gorgeous, mid-engined 4C sports car's big debut at the 2013 Geneva auto show, Alfa Romeo announced a limited run of special 4C Launch Editions, and 500 of them are coming to North America. Besides looking incredible—we declared the new Alfa one of the Geneva show's top 10 hottest debuts—the Launch Edition illuminates a few option bundles 4C buyers will be able to look forward to, since it comes loaded with several of them.
The 4C Launch Edition will be available in two colors—Carrera White or Alfa Red—and comes decked out with the carbon aerodynamic kit, sports suspension, a racing exhaust system, and the optional 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels. (The standard wheel setup measures 17 and 18 inches.) The carbon package goodies include a carbon-fiber rear spoiler and side-mirror caps, and the suspension upgrades consist of sportier dampers and a rear anti-roll bar.
The Launch Edition is further set apart by additional front air intakes just ahead of each front wheel, a dark-finished aluminum diffuser, and a numbered carbon-fiber badge on the dashboard. Buyers who order one in Alfa Red get red contrasting stitching on the steering wheel, handbrake, floor mats, door handles, and the Alcantara and leather seats. Buyers also will be offered the chance to receive professional driving instruction in Italy, which is neat.
As for the rest of the world, Alfa Romeo says it will send 400 Launch Editions to Europe, Africa and the Middle East, with another 100 allotted to everywhere else. We're slightly flattered that Alfa Romeo has allocated more of these first-edition beauties to our market than to Europe, never mind that the brand is suffering there. The company also announced that the Launch Edition will cost around €60,000, including VAT. No word on exact pricing for our market, but figure on the 4C—both the regular version and the Launch Edition—landing in the U.S. well into nicely optioned Porsche Boxster S territory.
