Ford, Shelby Pay Tribute to Carroll Shelby with 850-hp GT500 [2012 Pebble Beach]

Fifty years ago, Carroll Shelby made the first Shelby Cobra, a lightweight British roadster with a big ol' American V-8 up front. The car became legendary and Shelby's most well-known accomplishment. As a tribute to the automotive icon who died this past spring, Ford and Shelby American built this one-off 850-hp, wide-body 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Cobra, based on the new GT500. The tribute Cobra is painted in the same classic Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White stripes that adorned many Cobras from the '60s.
