Flat Rock Builds Its Last Mazda

The final American-made Mazda6 rolled off the production line today, as the Flat Rock, Michigan plant now becomes a facility that exclusively builds Fords.

Flat Rock will remain a 50-50 joint venture between Mazda and Ford, but will continue to build the Mustang and the Fusion (starting in 2013). The next-generation Mazda6 will be built in Japan. Despite exchange rates hammering Japanese imports, Mazda's CX-5 has been engineered with an unfavorable exchange rate in mind – presumably, Mazda has done the same thing with their newest sedan.
