2014 Roush Configurator Goes Live, Worker Productivity Plummets

2014 Roush Mustang GT

The 2014 Mustang is barely out of the corral but Jack Roush and the folks at Roush Performance already have their 2014 Mustang Configurator open for business. As in recent years, there are three packages for the Mustang GT (a multiple winner of our 10Best award) and one for the Mustang V-6. Before America's workforce disappears for the next hour to build the 'Stang of its dreams, keep in mind: Mustang sold separately.Stage 1 ($4500) Roush show with factory go: it's the R6 Aerodynamic package of exterior and interior enhancements, with no powertrain or chassis mods. Stage 1 gets a specific high-flow grille, plus a high-flow lower grille eliminator flanked by driving lights in aero pockets, a front chin splitter, rocker panel, and rear fascia side splitters, a three-piece rear spoiler, unique aero rear valance, and chrome dual-chambered exhaust tips.

Badges are essential in letting the world know you're driving something special, and all the Roush editions come with plenty. There's Stage-specific badging for the grille, decklid and dash, a numbered underhood badge, special R fender badges, and a faux fuel-cap badge. Inside there are embroidered floor mats and a Roush console lid button. Jack Roush signature graphics on the dash and rear decklid and a Roush windshield banner round out the package.

Stage 2 ($7950) Takes the Stage 1 with stock GT driveline and adds the Roush Handling package; there's a larger front anti-roll bar, twin-tube shocks with specific valving, increased rate springs, more compliant suspension bushings and jounce bumpers, plus special Cooper RS3 ultra-high-performance tires on 10- x 18-inch chrome-plated aluminum wheels. Of course, the badging is upgraded to reflect the Stage 2 package.

Stage 3 ($17,000) Starts with a Stage 2, and lets the horses run free. The 5.0-liter V-8 is treated to a Roush TVS 2.3L supercharger. It's intercooled and produces 575 horsepower and 505 lb-ft of torque—a hefty increase from the GT's standard 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft. Additional Stage 3 features include a custom gauge cluster, exterior hood scoop, special exterior graphics package, and Stage 3 badging.

If you require yet more individuality, there are numerous customization options including wheel and tire packages, brake packages, a new rear-seat cross-brace option, two interior packages, custom paint, and even a Ford Racing Aluminator forged engine option for the Stage 3. A heavy mouse finger can more than double the $17,000 Stage 3 package price.

2014 Roush Mustang V6

RS ($4000) Even those with a mere 305 horsepower under the hood of their V-6 Mustangs can play, too. The "Roush Six" package (shown above) returns and includes high-flow upper and lower grilles, chin and rocker splitters and a rear-deck spoiler. The chassis is treated to 8- x 18-inch painted aluminum wheels with 235/50 performance tires, and progressive lowering springs that drop the car about an inch. Inside touches include embroidered floor mats and billet pedals, and of course, the package wouldn't be complete without its own complement of Roush badging and a numbered underhood plaque.

There's still a Shelby GT500 for 2014 (the Boss 302 has been laid off) but even so, the vast array of choices will leave plenty of room in the Mustang enthusiast's heart for the Roush editions. They're available as coupes or convertibles, with manual or automatic transmissions, and Roush Mustangs come with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. Just remember: Mustang sold separately.
