At the rate Audi is filling out its lineup of crossovers, the brand soon will run out of single-digit numbers to pair with the letter "Q." The latest confirmed new member is the Q2, which we will see this coming year. That's the latest news out of Ingolstadt, along with the notice that the second-generation of the Q5 (currently Audi's bestselling Q model—and its bestselling model overall in the U.S.) will bow in 2016 as well.
-Audi previously had announced at a shareholder meeting last year that the Q1 would bow in 2016. There was no mention of the Q1 in the company's latest statement, which means either that the Q2 is supplanting the Q1 as the brand's smallest crossover entry, or that both will join the roster for 2016—the Q1 as a traditionally shaped hatchback and the Q2 sporting a more coupe-like profile.
-We're betting on the latter, given the brand's the-more-the-merrier attitude toward Q models. Audi is planning a Q6 as its pure-EV entry (previewed by the e-tron Quattro concept), a Q8 "coupe" positioned above the current Q7, and a Q4 based on the current Q3. As for the Q2, CEO Rupert Stadler has described it as "a different type of Q model, emotional and very sporty." Its styling is expected to borrow from the Crosslane concept (pictured at top), first seen at the 2012 Paris auto show.

Is there room in the lineup for any more Q models? Well, there are only a couple more numerals available. Q0 or Q9, anyone?
