Petrol prices fall as low as 96.9 cents

Petrol in Sydney has fallen as low as 96.9 cents a litre, giving motorists an early Christmas present.

The cheapest regular unleaded petrol (ULP) is at the BP on Sherwood Road in Merrylands West, where it is 96.9 cents a litre according to independent price tracking website motormouth.com.au.

The United-branded service station on Sunnyholt Road in Blacktown had ULP priced at 97.9 cents per litre, while the Speedway at Smithfield was offering ULP at 98.7 cents.

The NRMA website said the average price of ULP in Sydney on Tuesday was 104.1 cents.

The ethanol-blended E10 fuel saved motorists a few cents more, with the Smithfield Speedway on the Cumberland Highway listing it at 95.7 cents per litre.

The Mobil on Smithfield Road in Smithfield was selling E10 slightly higher at 95.9 cents per litre, and the Speedway station Fairfield at 96.7 cents per litre.

The cheapest diesel in Sydney was at Metro Fuel in Fairfield, where it priced at 129.9 cents a litre.

The cost of petrol in Sydney dropped below $1 last week - the first time it had done so in three years.
