Rethink the Cost of Hybrids

Think buying a hybrid car is out of your price range? The Yahoo Green weblog says it's time you rethink the cost of hybrids, comparing the cost to own a Prius versus two non-hybrid cars—a Honda Accord and Civic—over the course of three years. Estimating the purchase price and Blue Book value over time, along with gas (estimated at a low $4/gallon), maintenance, and financing, the cost of owning the Prius over the three years comes out to just under $2,000 less than the Civic and nearly $5,000 less than the Accord. With gas prices well over $4 here in Los Angeles and other cities across the country, those number only get better for hybrid owners.
