New Jaguar XF Diesel S Revealed with 275hp 42 mpg!

Official Jaguar XF Diesel S details have emerged, and the specs look pretty good. As far as luxury sports sedans go, the 0-60mph time of 5.9 seconds is impressive, as is the very efficient 42 miles-per-gallon fuel consumption level.

Jaguar's new engine, the AJ-V6D Gen III S 3.0-liter diesel, manages 271 horsepower and 442 ft-lb of torque. Inside, parallel turbochargers give the car a bit more oomph, with a large, primary turbo doing most of the work, and a secondary turbo providing more power above 2800 rpm. Turbo-lag is mostly eliminated, as the first turbo whips up 500 Nm of torque within a half-second. Pushing the car to a top speed of 155 mph (electronically limited), this is one of Jaguar's best diesel engines ever. The engine already meets EU5 emission standards, producing 179g per kilometer of CO2.

Of the system, powertrain chief engineer Ron Lee said, "The new parallel sequential turbocharger system on our new V6 diesel delivers V8 levels of performance from very low revs. It's a power unit that offers superb flexibility and remarkably low fuel consumption and emissions, while building on the refinement that has become a trademark of our Jaguar diesel engines."

In fact, the XF Diesel S has a 0-60mph time that is 1.8 seconds faster than the model with the 2.7-liter petrol engine, and it is 0.8 seconds faster than the new 3.0-liter petrol model. A six speed automatic transmission times the gear changes for the driver.

"[The new XF Diesel S] is another great example of Jaguar delivering unrivalled performance while at the same time taking the level of refinement in diesel engines to a whole new level," said Jaguar Programmes Director Mick Mohan.

Ferrari Dino mule spy photos re-emerge?

 A new Ferrari roadster is coming, it may be called the Dino, it may be called something else

Ferrari once tried to start a separate, lower cost brand and called it the Dino. The brand was named after Enzo Ferrari's son, Alfredino, who, sadly, passed away at the young age of 24 from muscular dystrophy. The Dino-badged sports car was a rear-engined V6 powered vehicle that was in production from 1968 to 1976.

Now, it seems Ferrari wants to bring the Dino badge back, but as a model name and not as its own brand.

Or not. It may just be that these spy shots are for another new Ferrari model since previous spy photos of various F430s and 599 GTB Fioranos were thought to be the Dino.  However when full bodied California prototypes started turning up on the roads, the F430 and 599 mules disappeared - until now (post Califronia debut). In any case, if it is the Dino after all, it will be a new lower-cost roadster which Ferrari can sell at higher volumes that could help the brand's bottom line in these difficult times.

This particular prototype using the 599 GTB Fiorano body looks quite normal except for the different front bumper, slightly unevenly shaped headlamp lenses, single pipe dual exhaust and a peculiar removeable hard top.

Pre California rumors said the Dino will likely come with a slightly less refined V8 spewing 400 horses of power and placed at the rear. It will be fairly priced, meaning rather reasonable for a Ferrari, between 100,000 and 115,000 euros. There will be both a coupe and cabriolet version. Volumes could be as high as 4,000 per year, and if Ferrari can keep its margins healthy enough on the Dino, it will be a real winner.

Land Rover Discovery (LR3) Facelift First Photos

Land Rover released a very minor facelift of the Discovery 3 (LR3 in some markets) in August this year. What is this we are spying then? It looks much more pronounced where clear changes have been made to the front and rear bumpers. New square fog lights and two rectangular exhaust pipes give fresh detailing as well, so too do the rear lights cluster that take on a clearer, almost Asian kind of look. The entire look is much more Range Rover than Disco3, especially at the front end.

New engines will feature, both petrol and diesel. Land Rover is still in the process of relocating from the house of Ford, and therefore has no immediate plans of hybrid, although Land Rover executives do state a continuing parts-sharing arrangement with the former parent.
