Sparking Sales: Chevrolet Lowers Price of Spark EV

2015 Chevrolet Spark EV
-Hoping to spark sales (sorry, had to get the pun out of the way) Chevrolet has lowered the price of its 2015 Spark EV by $1650 to a pre-incentive price of $25,995, including destination. Factor in the incentives from the Feds (up to $7500), California and Maryland state governments ($2500 and $2300, respectively), as well as new incentives announced by GM ($1000 in California, $1200 in Maryland, and $3500 in Oregon, where no state incentives are offered) and the price falls to as low as $14,995, making it even cheaper than a comparable gas-powered Spark.

Alternately, Chevrolet is offering a lease of $139 per month for 39 months with $0 due up front, which includes security deposit but not tax, title, license, and dealer fees.

-

"It's almost a grand cheaper than a 1LT [non-EV] Spark," said GM spokesperson Analissa Bluhm. "If you can make a Spark EV work for you in your life, you'd be stupid not to."

And about making a Spark EV work in your life, it's worth noting that while the Spark EV is still not the cheapest EV out there—those honors belong to the generally miserable Mitsubishi iMiEV and Smart ForTwo Electric Drive—the Spark EV is one of the best. Actually, it is the best EV that isn't a Tesla Model S, having won a six-way EV comparison test last year. So if you're thinking of adding an electrified commuter to your garage, you could do worse. And pay a bunch more.
