Chevrolet is planning some big news for April's New York International Auto Show. The bow-tie brand announced that the next generation of its midsize sedan will be unveiled, and it sounds like the Malibu is in for some big changes.

Chevrolet said it's using a "blank slate" approach to the redesign; the Malibu will ride on a nearly 4-inch-longer wheelbase, which will increase passenger space. The automaker also expects the new Malibu to be around 300 pounds lighter than the outgoing model thanks to a higher-strength steel structure.
In terms of design, the teaser image depicts a sleeker-looking sedan with a more sloping roofline and shorter front and rear overhangs than the previous generation.
The 2016 Malibu will go on sale at the end of this year; stay tuned for more information after the sedan makes its debut in early April.
