The 2015 Ford Mustang GT is one of our 10Best Cars, its 435 horsepower and incredibly capable chassis letting it hang with cars with fine European pedigrees and ascot-quivering price tags. But enough is never truly enough, and the gasoline addicts at Hennessey Performance just dyno-proved a monster Mustang: How does 663 horses and 525 lb-ft at the rear wheels suit you?
Hennessey's HPE700 package slaps a meaty 2.9-liter supercharger and all the requisite fuel and computer add-ons atop the new Mustang's 5.0-liter mill. It all adds up to a claimed 717 horsepower and 632 lb-ft at the crank—good for a tuner-claimed 0-to-60-mph run of 3.6 seconds on the way to an 11.2-second quarter-mile at 131 mph. That's on 93-octane gas—but it utilizes the Mustang's factory-stock exhaust system.
Those numbers will make Corvette Z06 and Challenger Hellcat owners sweat a little bit, as will the price: Hennessey says the whole kit will roar out the door for as little as $59,500, including the cost of the 2015 Mustang GT on which it's based.
How's it sound? Surprisingly quiet, thanks to the stock exhaust, yet still absolutely vicious.
