Tall wagon fans, here's some good news: A year after it joined the lineup, Volvo is expanding its V60 offerings with a new Cross Country model that puts an emphasis on off-roading.

Modifications to the compact, all-wheel-drive wagon include an additional 2.6 inches of ground clearance compared to the regular V60, 18- or 19-inch high-profile tires and standard hill descent control. The V60 Cross Country will initially launch with Volvo's 250-horsepower, turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine; no word yet on if it'll get the automaker's more efficient Drive-E turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Visual cues distinguishing it include front and rear skid plates, side scuff plates and fender extenders for a more rugged look. Inside, there's standard black leather sports seats with brown accent stitching and two new two-tone leather upholsteries.

Pricing and an on-sale date have not yet been announced, but expect the Cross Country trim to be priced over the base V60's starting price — $36,225, including destination. Stay tuned for more details; the Volvo V60 Cross Country will meet the press at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.
