Lars and the Real Golf: Guy Advertises Used VW Using Creepy Doll as Model

Volkswagen Golf ad

There are two unbelievable things about the movie Lars and the Real Girl: First, that a character played by Ryan Gosling could have enough trouble finding women that he's forced to consider a lifelike doll for companionship; and second, that he actually finds companionship from that doll acceptable. As Autoweek discovered, reality really can be stranger than fiction: Check out this eBay used-car listing starring the khaki-pants-clad Sandy.

Sandy, in case you weren't studying the picture above closely enough, is not real.

Now, we know a thing or two about selling a car on eBay—and about navigating Craigslist's entrancing-but-sometimes-creepy web—but we've never thought of this. Everyone's seen the old "use a model to sell your car" trick, but Sandy is among the most cooperative attention-getters we've seen. The red-haired vixen also brings a thousand-yard stare to the party, an apparent full range of motion, and, well, yeah.

We're betting absolutely no one has yet asked whether Sandy "comes with the car," but our very own shaggy-haired rascal, Safety Man, might just have eyes for her. While Safety Man is incapable of buying a car, real people can—and since this ad for a pretty tired Golf has been seen by many more of them than normal, using Sandy to help sell it wasn't a bad way to go. Just a creepy one.
