The McLaren P15 Is Now The McLaren 650S

Every year about this time, the most cooperative journalists in the business start receiving their manufacturer-supplied first-class tickets to Geneva. This can be as much misery as joy; one famous TTAC alum who now does Rutledge Wood impersonations for a major YouTube channel once publicly complained about the A/C condenser on a KLM 747 actually having the audacity to drip water on him as he was being served a Chianti with fava beans, or something like that. Poor guy. I hope he never accidentally watches Schindler's List.

Anyway, the Geneva show is coming up soon, and that means that the new McLaren middleweight sports car is just around the corner.

The third model of the McLaren range has been in flux for some time, at least in the perception of the media. We thought it was going to be a 911 Turbo competitor with the name "P13″. But then we heard it was going to be an Aventador rival with the name "P15″. It now appears that it will be an Aventador rival with the name "650S". Why is it called 650S? Perhaps because it has 650 horsepower. Perhaps because it will cost $650,000. Perhaps because it's been given a "650″ rating in McLaren's newest Byzantine method for measuring automotive performance. We just don't know. But it's heading your way, so if you have a deposit down on an Aventador, you might want to, um…

take delivery of that Aventador. Let's face it. The only panties that drop for a McLaren belong to Jeremy Clarkson.
