There was a time when presenting a concept car was an opportunity for automakers to talk about sketchbook engines with hilariously obscene horsepower numbers, or designs so outlandish they could make Ed Roth blush. "The Oldsmobuick Rageaholic concept has a hybrid powertrain," a polyester-clad exec would have said with a smile, "combining a small nuclear fusion reactor for low-speed driving with a larger fission reactor for those times when you really need the performance." Today, priorities have shifted. The Ford Edge concept, which debuted at the L.A. auto show, has an engine. At least, we're fairly sure of that.
