What It Is: The new BMW X4 caught undisguised hanging out on a rooftop in the southern U.S. Previewed by the X4 concept at last April's Shanghai auto show, it's based on the second-generation X3. This strategy parallels that used to create the massive X6, a four-door SUV-coupe-thing that's based on the X5, and the family resemblance is obvious. The X4 has a bit more character to its styling than does the current X6, thanks to body-side sculpting that resembles the X3's.
