In endurance sports-car racing, it used to be that strategy  was king. If  you had a two-car team, for instance, one car might be the tortoise, the other the rabbit. What's more, at the drop of the green flag, only the cars on the front row put the hammer down. The veterans in the rest of the field initially dilly-dallied around at two-thirds speed, as if  vaguely stunned, staying clear of the watch-this rookies and the over-adrenalized gentlemen drivers whose egos and bank accounts overshadowed their brakes and grip.
