| We expect that the Jeep stand will be one of the busiest displays at this year's Frankfurt auto show. With the usual crowds fighting over every square foot of real estate in order to get the very best angle for iPhone photography that will later flood social-media feeds, and all of this happening underneath a throng of flood lights, auto shows are rarely a cool and comfortable affair. But Jeep will have on display its Wrangler Polar special edition, which features a badge containing the coordinates of where the coldest temperate in history was recorded: Russia's Antarctic Vostok station at -128.56 degrees Fahrenheit. So if you'll be in attendance and need to cool off, you know where to go. Perhaps somewhat ironically, the Polar edition is based on the Jeep Wrangler Sahara, and it's offered as a two- or a four-door model available in Billet Silver Metallic or Bright White. Jeep spotters will notice a slightly different grille with gloss black on the lamp throats and a new hard spare-tire cover. The hardtop is body-colored and houses deeply tinted windows. Rounding out the special-edition features are a power-dome hood, 18-inch black-finished aluminum wheels, a Mopar fuel door, a mountain-terrain decal that we assume turns blue when your Wrangler is cold enough to drink—wait, isn't it the Coors Light can that does that? We'll get back to you—and that frostbite-inspiring Polar badge behind the front fenders. Black leather adorns the interior and is accented with plenty of white, be it in the stitching of the upholstery or the high-gloss trim surrounding the air vents and blue-backed gauge cluster. Of course, no Polar-themed Wrangler would be complete without heavy-pattern slush mats and heated front seats.
Powering the Polar Wrangler is a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel that produces 200 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque, backed up to a five-speed automatic. In order to convert that power into propulsion capable of scaling a glacier, the Polar edition uses Dana axles front and rear, a Command-Trac NV241 two-speed transfer case, and a torque-sensitive mechanical rear differential. Of course, Jeep doesn't sell any Wranglers in the U.S. with a diesel of any sort, so this is the point in the story where we pull the rug out from under you and reveal that this special edition is limited to Europe.
