2014 Mitsubishi Outlander: Car Seat Check

The Mitsubishi Outlander has been redesigned for 2014. It now features higher-quality materials in the interior and a sleeker-looking exterior. Like the previous generation, the 2014 Outlander can seat five passengers in two rows of seats or seven passengers with the optional third row. However, third-row legroom is so tight that it might be too small for kids. How many car seats fit in the second row? Two How many car seats fit in the third row? Two booster seats What We Like Despite the stiff seat leather, the two sets of lower Latch anchors in the second row were easy to access. They sit about a half inch in the seat bight. The forward-facing convertible installed easily in the second row, and the front passenger didn't have to move forward to accommodate the seat. The booster seat also fit well in the second row, and the seat belt buckles are on rigid stalks, which is easier for kids to use independently. What We Don't It was easy to install the rear-facing infant and convertible seats in the Outlander's second row, but the front passenger didn't have enough legroom to sit comfortably. The rear convertible took up a little of the front passenger's legroom. While the second row slides forward easily, the walkway to the third row is narrow. Our tester could barely fit her leg in the pathway. The third row doesn't have any tether anchors, so a forward-facing convertible can't be installed there. The third row's seat belt buckles are recessed in the bottom seat cushion, making it difficult for kids to use. For the Car Seat Check, we use a Graco SnugRide 30 infant-safety seat, a Britax Roundabout convertible seat and Graco TurboBooster seat. The front seats are adjusted for a 6-foot driver and a 5-foot-8 passenger. The three child seats are installed in the second row. The booster seat sits behind the driver's seat, and the infant and convertible seats are installed behind the front passenger seat. We also install the forward-facing convertible in the second row's middle seat with the booster and infant seat in the outboard seats to see if three car seats will fit; a child sitting in the booster seat must be able to reach the seat belt buckle. If there's a third row, we install the booster seat and a forward-facing convertible. Parents should also remember that they can use the Latch system or a seat belt to install a car seat.
