| What did you expect? Just as is the case with the regular BMW 6-series Gran Coupe, the hotter, new-for-2014 M6 Gran Coupe is quite handsomely more expensive than its two-door M6 counterpart, as well as a comparable 5-series. That's not to say that the M6 Gran Coupe, which BMW has released full pricing for, doesn't have a few positives going for it. The big, swoopy sedan shares its 560-hp, twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 with the M5, and, well, just look at it. Still, the $115,225 M-fettled Gran Coupe is $3800 dearer than the M6 coupe, and $22,800 pricier than the 2013 M5. The M6 Gran Coupe's steep base price carries with it $925 in destination fees, as well as a gas-guzzler tax estimated at $1300. A few option packages are available for buyers looking for more performance, technology, luxury, or all three. The $6000 Competition package, for example, adds 15 horsepower, a higher stability-control threshold, a sport exhaust, and "enhanced sport suspension settings." Yes, please. The $1900 Driver Assistance kit includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, city collision mitigation, side and top-view parking cameras, and speed limit recognition. As enthusiasts who aren't enthused by hyperactive safety nannies, we'd probably skip this package. Were we endowed with bottomless pockets, we'd probably spring for the $5500 Executive package, which brings a heated steering wheel, power rear sunshades, ventilated and active front seats, heated rear seats, full LED lighting, and a head-up display.
Of course, BMW is offering a host of individual options for the M6 Gran Coupe, too. The most noteworthy such option—at least to Save the Manuals! fans—is the no-cost manual transmission spec. That said, we found the same transmission to be less than stellar in the closely related M5, so maybe sticking with the stock dual-clutch automatic is preferable. There's also a $9250 carbon-ceramic brake option, a $3700 Bang & Olufsen audio system, and a $2600 night-vision system with pedestrian detection. Besides competing with BMW's own M5 and M6, the sportiest Gran Coupe also goes head-to-head with the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG, which, besides avoiding the gas-guzzler tax, also starts at just $96,805.
