2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Is One Fast Fish

One of the last pieces of the 455-horsepower 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray puzzle is put into place with the official announcement of performance numbers: Zero-to-60 mph is expected to click by in 3.8 seconds. To put that into perspective, a 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S coupe does the deed as fast as 3.9 seconds with an automatic transmission and the Sport Chrono Package, while an Audi R8 V-8 coupe claims 4.2 seconds with automatic transmission. Chevrolet cites the Corvette's performance capabilities with the optional $2,800 Z51 Performance Package and $1,795 Magnetic Ride Control suspension with Performance Traction Management driving modes. The equipped Z51 Package includes an electronic limited-slip differential; dry-sump oiling system; coolers for the brakes, differential and transmission; and an aero package for high-speed stability. Additionally, the Corvette Z51 is expected to run down the quarter-mile in 12.0 seconds at 119 mph, stop from 60 mph in 107 feet and hit 1.03 g in maximum lateral acceleration. As tested, the Z51 Chevrolet used for these numbers cost $56,590, including destination. A Chevrolet representative tells us its performance numbers are the same between the standard seven-speed manual and optional six-speed automatic transmission.
