| When Nissan first outlined its next-generation, in-house hybrid system nearly two years ago, it promised that the setup would arrive sometime in 2013 to supplant a V-6 in a new hybrid vehicle. We had predicted that the company was talking about the inevitable hybrid version of the latest Altima sedan, but Nissan's first recipient of its new hybrid powertrain is, in fact, the new Pathfinder crossover. Introduced last year, the fourth-generation Pathfinder broke significantly from its predecessor, a rugged body-on-frame SUV in the old tradition, and this hybrid iteration further seals the new rig's crossover status.
