Mercedes-Benz is planning to use next week's 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit to unveil its refreshed 2014 E-Class lineup, and it has published details about two models that are sure to get some hearts beating faster. The 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC and E63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC will make their global debuts at the show, wearing updated sheet metal and new interiors. They will feature more power and the first-ever standard all-wheel-drive configuration for the North American market. The standard E63 AMG sedan will come with a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 engine making a whopping 550 horsepower and 531 pounds-feet of torque that's channeled to all four wheels by Mercedes' 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. If zero to 60 in 3.6 seconds just isn't quick enough for you, upgrade to the new S-Model that features a more powerful 577-hp engine, another 59 pounds-feet of torque and lops off 0.1 seconds to 60 mph. The S-Model also will be available as a wagon, but sadly without the E-Class wagon's rear-facing third-row jump seat, eliminated in the name of weight balance. All models will feature Mercedes' seven-speed automatic transmission and an electronic adjustable sport suspension. Inside, a new interior shared with the revised 2014 E-Class gets AMG-specific upgrades for the E63, including optional sport seats with contrasting stitching, a unique gauge cluster, silver seat belts and an Alcantara-covered steering wheel. Dash and door trim can be had in wood, piano-black lacquer or carbon fiber. An optional 14-speaker AMG Bang & Olufsen audio system is available with a 1,200-watt amplifier if you grow tired of hearing the glorious engine sounds. Outside, a new front end has all-LED headlights and gaping air openings below the bumper, and it now features what Mercedes-Benz calls its A-Wing family look. The S-Model gets some slightly different styling, including a glossy-black A-Wing, red-colored brake calipers, S-badges on the trunk and speedometer, optional carbon-ceramic brakes and unique 19-inch matte gray wheels. Available on either model will be an exterior carbon fiber styling package and an AMG-branded carbon fiber engine cover. The new E63 AMG is scheduled to go on sale this summer. from KickingTires http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/ | |||
