Recall Alert: 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV

Mitsubishi is recalling 261 model-year 2012 i-MiEV electric cars for an airbag fault that could deactivate the frontal and side airbag system. The problem is caused by an incompatibility between the airbag sensors and self-diagnostic software that will trigger a Supplemental Restraint System warning light to alert drivers if the fault has occurred. The airbags may not deploy in a crash as a result of the incompatibility. The affected vehicles were manufactured from Nov. 4 to Dec. 22, 2011. Mitsubishi will notify owners, though a notification schedule hasn't been provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Dealerships will replace the incorrect airbag sensors with new, compatible sensors free of charge.
