200-Proof LeMons Photo: Shanty Town at Nelson Ledges


Our last 200-Proof LeMons Photo showed cars slogging through the wet at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and that got us to thinking about the muddy adventures at another legendary old-school track: the 2009 Lamest Day 24 Hours of LeMons at Nelson Ledges. That wild 24-hours-straight race—still spoken of in awed, hushed tones by the racers who were there— featured a paddock that was something of a cross between Woodstock and the Battle of the Somme, and the Lamest Mess Racing team took advantage of their muddy pit space and turned a thousand pounds of cardboard into The Shanty Town. Not believing in half measures, the team even pop-riveted cardboard all over their Infiniti Q45 race car, then made their own clothing out of cardboard. Read full story »
