The EPA has tested Cadillac's smallest sedan and rated it at 22/33 mpg city/highway and 26 mpg combined. Cadillac had said the car will deliver 30-plus mpg highway in at least one variation.

The EPA's rating applies to the ATS' base engine: a 202-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder. Also available are a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 272 hp and a 3.6-liter V-6 that makes 321 hp. The EPA has not yet rated those engines.

Cadillac's compact sport sedan will start at $33,990, including an $895 destination charge, when it goes on sale this summer.
