| Back in 1958, Oklahoma senator Almer Stillwell "Mike" Monroney thought every new car ought to have a simple label listing the car's specifications and price. Monroney sponsored the Automobile Information Disclosure Act as a hedge against fork-tongued salesmen, and the subsequent federally mandated window sticker informally bears his name. The only problem with the Monroney label today is that it's practically meaningless. From the list price you'd be foolish to pay to the fuel-economy numbers you likely won't see to the new "Global Warming Score" and electric-vehicle "MPGe" equivalents you can't possibly verify, Monroney's simple blow against showroom shenanigans has become a confusion of ballpark estimates couched in ecologically minded do-gooderism.
